About Tyneside Foodservice

At Tyneside Foodservice, we are proud to offer customers a large range of ambient, frozen, butchery, desserts, drinks and more. And being a member of Fairway Foodservice Group, we have the buying power of a large, national business, which means better prices for our customers.

1975

Alan Walton (left) spent time working his way up the ladder within the company West Cumberland Farmers, to become the depot manager. Steve Johnson (right) was with Alan from the start and is the Transport Manager to this very day!

1979

Alan began Tyneside Frozen Foods and at this time the company was based in Benwell, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and serviced customers from a staff of six with only two transit vans. With Alan’s passion for customer service and business, fueled by hard work and determination to make Tyneside Foodservice a success, he began to deal with the likes of Fenwick’s and Bainbridge’s of Newcastle.

Late 80’s Early 90’s

All three of Alan Walton’s sons joined the company. Tyneside Frozen Foods became one of the early members to join the Fairway Foodservice group, which was founded in 1984 by five frozen food wholesalers. Alan Walton took the decision to join this group enabling his company to maximise their buying power and pass on the benefits to his customer base.

1990

Walls granted Tyneside Frozen Foods the concessionaire for their catering division – County Fair, distributing across the North East area.

1991

The area that the company was servicing was expanding and their site in Northallerton opened. This new depot was managed by Alan’s eldest son, who carried on expanding the business through the more southern areas of the North East, down to Ripon and York.

2000

An important date for the business as Tyneside Frozen Foods underwent a name change and became Tyneside Foodservice Ltd.

2001

Tyneside Frozen Foods had around 10 years of successful service from their Northallerton depot before they moved to open up a bigger site in Thirsk. The southern site continued to run alongside the main depot in Blaydon. Alan Walton also decided to take a step back from being the Managing Director of the business confident in the ability of his three sons to take on more roles within the company.

2005

With customer focus still paramount to the business, the Walton family decided to expand the business from purely frozen food wholesale to incorporate both chilled and dry goods to offer their customers.

2009

The southern site in the business was consolidated back into one depot at Blaydon and Tyneside Foodservice continued to service the whole of the North East from Berwick to York from the one site.

2013

The company took on board the demand from customers and expanded the new chilled and dry goods storage, enabling more variety of products for their customer base. It was later this year that Tyneside Foodservice became the sole distributors for Beckleberry’s another Blaydon based, family-run, company manufacturing ice cream and patisserie products.

2014

Tyneside Foodservice was rebranded. The fleet of 16 multi-temp delivery vehicles were given a ‘make over’, to incorporate the new logo. Customers are now able to see Tyneside Foodservice delivering across the North East of England with the modern TF logo. This is twinned with the images of the unmistakable Beckleberry’s gourmet ice cream, never losing the roots of the frozen food service that Alan Walton began almost 40 years ago.
